Today, Paul Weller remains a true British icon, with a career in music spanning six decades. By the mid- ‘90s he had released three successful albums which were both critically acclaimed and cited as influential by artists such as Ocean Colour Scene, and artists like Noel Gallagher of Oasis singing his praises. Weller’s solo records were more organic and rootsier than the Style Council’s which helped him gain fresh popularity in Britain. Later on, as a solo artist, Weller returned to soul music as an inspiration, cutting it with the progressive, hippie tendencies of Traffic. During the final days of the Jam, Weller developed a fascination with Motown, jazz and soul, leading him to form new wave sophisti-pop group the Style Council.
